From our experience as educators and explorers, we know that nature is essential, but planning is exhausting
Planning any length of outdoor trip can be time consuming and inefficient, to the point that people often give up, don’t go, or wing it, and cause themselves more problems down the line. Our app makes planning quick and easy while still ensuring you and your adventure partners are being thorough. We make it so that you don’t have to comb through the internet to get ideas for where to go, what to bring, what to eat, and what safety risks to consider; instead, you can quickly find them all on our app, easily making your ideas for outdoor adventures a reality.
We know that people so often don’t go outside because they don’t know where to start. We want to give you all the info you need to know to make your outdoor time a reality, whether you want to go on a hike with your kids, or plan a multi-day backpacking trip with your adventure buddies.
We are ultimately creatures who crave community, and community in the outdoors is no exception. We know that people want to get outside with people they know and love, and are more likely to get outside if they see themselves in the folks who are getting after it. And, rallying the people can be time consuming and disorganized. Our app makes it easy to plan trips with your friends and family ensuring that you’re not annoyed at each other before the trip starts, or that you don’t accidentally forget something that ends up derailing your whole trip.
We believe that an important key to getting people outside is to empower those with the knowledge and the drive to get groups of people outdoors, whether it’s small outdoor programs, guiding companies, youth programs, schools, etc. We know that the logistics for these can raise prices or limit people’s capability to bring others on even a short trip.
Founded by educators Regina and Anna, GoAdventa traces its roots back to a high school outdoor leadership program with a simple goal: get students outside. Regina, a Ukrainian refugee, found personal healing through the Outdoor Leadership Training Club (OLT) at UCLA. Along with her colleague Anna, they started OLT for their high school students to provide them the same transformative experiences. OLT quickly became one of the most popular clubs at the school, with about a quarter of the school participating in trips each year.
We had a dedicated student cabinet running the club, with all trips planned and facilitated by student leaders. Students reported that it was one of the most transformative parts of their high school experience, with one student stating, “Before joining Outdoor Leadership Training, the thought of being out in the wilderness was something I couldn’t even fathom. I realized that when I was in nature, I could be free from my insecurities and take things at my own pace... Every single trip that I go on, I see myself climb literal and metaphorical mountains... [The club] has opened me up to a world that I had always felt distanced from and reconnected me with nature.
Although we left High Tech High Chula Vista by 2020, OLT stuck with us. It was so clear how transformative and important these experiences were for our students—how could we help other schools do this too? In 2021, we co-founded Revision Education, a non-profit that trains teachers, administrators, and students in starting outdoor programs. Although we wanted to make things easier to get students outside, we realized that all of our resources were clunky—we had people plan trips through google doc worksheets, food through elaborate spreadsheets, and gear through various lists.
We decided to redesign our website so that it could actually help teachers and students plan trips more efficiently. When one of our students suggested that we look into using AI, GoAdventa was born.
